2-stroke theory - Excellent atricle
This article does an excellent job of explaining the intricacies of port configuration within a 2-stroke engine, but also gives a good description of how fuel octane not only effects combustion pressure but the mixture motion caused by the squish band and it's interaction with ignition timing; requiring a reduced ignition curve when using a high compression cylinder head or prolonged periods of high rpm.
